Fight, Fight, Fight for Iowa!
Brad and I returned to our old stomping grounds this past weekend for the Hawyeye opening football game. The Hawks beat an inferior opponent but it was a fun game nonetheless. It was fun walking through downtown and around some of the campus. Iowa City is a beautiful college town! We didn’t see a lot of destruction left over from the flood, I think they have cleaned most of it up but there is plenty of rehabbing going on. The Coralville strip was pretty desolate…this is an area that leads into town and that had fast food, hotels a couple bars etc….almost all of them were closed and either for sale or under construction. We drove by the myriad of places that we lived in while in school there and that was weird to see that not much had changed on all those ratty apartment buildings. We had a great weekend -without kids – thanks Kel, Dust and Mom for wrangling the boys in our absence!
I am standing at the feet of the statue of Nile Kinnick, a Heisman trophy winner at Iowa and for whom the stadium is named after (the hat I’m wearing says “Kinnick”).
The Old Capitol, at the heart of the Iowa campus. Beautiful, isn’t it??

That sounds like a fun weekend. Univ. of Iowa is such a beautiful campus. I bet you had some choice words when the target bag melted in your oven…..yikes! Had to chuckle though over the discovery of 2 caramel apple sticks. Those have Christa written all over them. My Mom would have been a candidate if she was in the area!
Posted 1 year, 2 months agoThey actually were not caramel apple sticks- they were lollipop sticks from Ryan and Lucy. Hey we had to put the cake in the oven- it wouldn’t fit in the microwave and Cooper eats anything left on the counter. It’s too bad if that cake got ruined Brad- it was delicious!
